About:144-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

I plan to travel as an airline employee standby ticket

I want to get the train to Shanghai for 2 days before returning on a confirmed ticket to HKG. is this possible or would I need to start my journey in Shanghai.

You should post your full itinerary. It depends on where you enter China from and where you take the train from, as well as your nationality.

British passport and fly New York - BJ (the 144hour visa) - train to Shanghai and fly out of BJ to Hong Kong or visa a versa- fly New York - Shanghai train to BJ for 2 days then fly back out of Shanghai to Hong Kong.

You must get a visa in advance or change your plans. Two stops in China limits you to 24 hours transit without visa. 144 hours twov allows transit in BJ or Shanghai, but not both.
