Can I use a 144 hr visa to visit Beijing and then Shanghai before departing on a cruise

Will arrive Beijing from US Jan 1,2019 and then fly to Shanghai Jan 3 before departing on a cruise Jan 5 to Singapore. Can I use a 144 hr free transit obtained on arrival in Beijing to go onward to Shanghai?
