Best day trips from Chengdu?

Hi is it possible to go to Leshan as a day trip? If not what would you recommend? The Pingle village looks doable in one day as well, right?

Actually, both places can be arranged for a day trip from CD. If you like to enjoy the Giant Buddha, you can take a bullet train to Leshan; if you like to enjoy the ancient residences, you can take a bus from Xinnanmen Bus Station to Pingle.
