About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi - about Hong Kong

I was looking at flying from Beijing to Hong Kong, and then Hong Kong to Shanghai. I only have one visa entry. If I were to fly from Hong Kong to Shanghai and it was less than 72 hours would that qualify?

Audra, if you would travel like Hong Kong-Shanghai-another country or region instead of HK, you will qualify for the 144 hr free transit in Shanghai.

So if I’m flying home to the US 144 hours later I could do it then?

If you entered china with the single entry visa and then exit china in Beijing flying to Hong Kong. Then you can fly Hong Kong > Shanghai as long as you are continuing to a third country other than Hong Kong within 144 hours.
