Booking a hostel for one night

Hi for one night hostels while I’m on transit in Beijing, do I need to go police station ?

No. Yon don't need to go to the police station to register after you enter as your host will do that for you.

Since January 2018 China is aggressively cracking down non-Chinese who did not register when staying with a host or an airbnb. If your layover is over 24 hours, you must ask your host to complete the registration procedure which may involve a visit to the local Police Station. Failure to comply will result you being stopped at outbound immigration and banned from using the TWOV for two years, plus possible consequences on future visa applications.
