I am a PR in US holding an Indonesian Passport, do I need visa for 12 hours transit in Beijing?

I have a 12 hours transit in Beijing next month traveling from Los Angeles to Indonesia, I am planning of going out to see the Forbidden City in Beijing while i am there, do I need a visa?
