About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Is E-ticket acceptable? What if the Layover is a few hours?

Hello, thanks so much for the good info and details. My questions are: (1) Is E-ticket acceptable? Also, my confirmed ticket to my final destination has NO seat assignment till boarding, would that be acceptable? (2) If my layover is Less than 24 hrs (meaning I'll just wait at the airport (PVG), do I still have to obtain the 72-hr Transit Visa? (3) So, at time of boarding in the U.S., I need to inform the Airline's agent I'm on transit to a 3rd country?

1. Of course. Almost nobody has paper tickets nowadays, they're almost extinct like dinosaurs. And you don't need a seat assignment, just a confirmed ticket.
2. You don't need a visa if your transit is less than 24 hours, if you are in transit to a third country.
3. Yes. Print out your confirmed e-ticket. You will need to show it at check-in, boarding and arrival.

You are not traveling with a "transit visa" - that is something completely different (and does have a fee). You will be in "transit without visa", you won't have a visa and therefore there is no fee.

When they speak of confirmed seat they mean you are not on a space available standby ticket (usually airline employee or family travel benefits) not that you need a seat assignment. Must be country A > China > B. If under 24 hours, Shanghai requires a hotel reservation to leave the airport
