US to HK to Shanghai and back to US

I am having a problem for timing for my Chinese Visa. I am going to HK from US for 24 hours, then Shanghai for 48 hours, then back to US. Can I use the <72 hour Visa to China when entering through HK and fly back to Shanghai?

That's fine if your Shanghai-US flight does not stop in HK or Mainland China. Only 24 and 144-hour TWOVs are offered in Shanghai.
