We would like to fly from Hong Kong to Beijing (spend 2 or 3 nights) and then fly back to Hong Kong (Hong Kong-Beijing-Hong Kong). Is it okay to do? No, it has to be different than the original departure airport. You can fly to Macau on your way back, but not directly to HK.
