Can we complete this travel using a Single Entry Visa and two 144 hrs Free Transit?

Require further clarification ...please! We are only able to get a Single Entry Visa for China as there's only 11 months left on our passport (need 12 for Multiple Entry Visa)

We are Australian and British Citizens residing in Australia.

Are we able to travel as detailed below?:

Fly from Australia to Shanghai (using the 144hrs Free Transit)
Depart Shanghai 5 days later by cruise ship
Dock in Korea
Cruise to Tiajin/Beijing and dock for 3 days (using a Single Entry Visa – will remain onboard ship the 3 days)
Cruise to Korea and then disembark in Tokyo.
Fly from Tokyo to Shanghai (using the 144hrs Free Transit)
Fly from Shanghai to Australia the same day
