About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do we qualify under the 144 hours free transit rule ?

We are flying from USA to Tokyo, boarding a cruise ship for 16 days. Cruise ship stops at Japan, Hong Kong, Xiamen (China) and ending in Shanghai (China). We will be going directly from the ship to Shanghai airport and then fly back to the USA.

Your 2 stops in China limit you to 24 hr direct transit. If the total layover time in the two cities is less than 24 hours, no visa will be needed.
