x1 to x2

I got an x1 and when I came to china I did not want to study where I got the documents from so I did not get my resident permit within 30 days , how ever I still have a week for my visa to expire . I did not get my resident permit because I want to change my university and my course here is only for 6 months. Can I fly out of china and change my entry permit from an x1 to an x2 ?
