Thank you so much! I will apply for the 144 hour free transit on the plane on the way over. As I am only staying in Beijing for a total of 5 days and then 6 days in Bali.

When you check-in and/or board your flight to China, you must show your airline that you have a compliant itinerary for transit without visa by presenting your onward ticket non-stop to a third country. It's not a visa and therefore there is nothing to apply for on the plane on the way over.

But I will be in Beijing for three days first then fly from Beijing to Bali for 6 days and then back to beijing for three days. Do I just show them my flight tickets for proof?

Okay so I fly from Dublin to beijing stay in Beijing for three days then I fly from Beijing to Bali and stay in Bali for 6 days then I come back to Beijing for another three days so a total of six days in Beijing spaced out and then back to Dublin Ireland.

Is that possible? I don't think there are any non-stop flights from Ireland to China.

Copenhagen-Beijing (144 hrs)-Bali-Beijing (144 hrs)-Copenhagen doesn't require a visa if your flights are non-stop and you have an EU passport.

Yeah I don't need a visa for cophengan. But when I go from cophengan to Beijing and stay in bejing for a total of 6 days spaced out do I need to apply for the 144 hour visa in the Beijing airport?

Print out all your tickets. When you check-in and/or board your flight to China (at Dublin and Copenhagen), you must tell the airline that you are in "transit without visa in Beijing" (use those exact words) and show them your onward ticket to Bali. When you arrive in Beijing you follow the signs for "144 hours", and give the officer your passport, your onward ticket to Bali, your Beijing hotel reservation if you have one, and a completed arrival card (you get that on the plane).

You do exactly the same when you return from Bali.

It's totally straightforward. Hundreds of people do this every day without a problem; it's nothing special.
