Do we need to have a tour booking or proof of accommodation to qualify for 144 hour transit visa?

We are looking at a flight to Spain on China Eastern with connecting flights in Shanghai. I understand that the 144 hour transit visa means we could stay in China for 6 days before getting the second flight? We get this on arrival at Shanghai airport...are there any fees? Are we required to book our accommodation or a tour in advance to qualify? Many thanks

If you are traveling Country A - Shanghai (144 hours) - Country B, you can use the 144 hr visa-free waiver in China, and no need to have a tour booking or proof of accommodation. You can get this on arrival at Shanghai airport, and it is free of charge.
