About:China Visa Exemption

Do I need a visa for a short visit?

I'd like to travel to China for a couple of days while I'm staying in Thailand, I'd be leaving from and returning to Bangkok on a UK passport.
Will I qualify under the 72 hour free transit or do I need to make a formal application?

You need a visa if you are returning straight to Thailand. You only qualify for visa-free transit if your route is Country A-China-Country B non-stop.
