Immigration procedure or not at PVG for international transfer?

Hi!
I am planning on flying from Bangkok to Los Angeles, with China Eastern, doing an international transfer at Pudong Airport. Will I have to go through immigration there? Meaning, will I need a visa for China for that transfer?
Thank you very much!
Steve

Immigration inspection is needed at PVG, but there is no need to reclaim your baggage. However, the visa is not required. You are eligible for 24/72h visa-free transit.
