About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Can I use the 72 hour visa?

I will be traveling from Seoul to Shenyang, then to San Francisco, however the tickets I'm looking at have a layover in Korea again. It's ICN -> SHEN -> ICN -> SFO. It's just a layover back in Seoul so I don't know if that makes me not qualify for the 72 hour free transit?

Your route does not qualify for visa-free transit because Korea-China-Korea isn't a transit.

I appreciate your quick response. I guess it doesn’t qualify even if I’m not planning to go back to Korea. The airplane just stops there and it’s a short layover in the airport. What if my flight were to be from Seoul to Shenyang and then a layover in Beijing nephew going to San Francisco?

Two stops in China (Shenyang and Beijing) would limit you to 24 hours transit without visa.

hello, sorry to bother you again and ask too many questions. I just want to verify if I can use the 72 hour free transit even if I just have a stop at the airport in Korea, a short one and not leaving the airport. My route is Seoul to Shenyang to San Francisco. There are no direct flights from Shenyang to San Francisco, and the cheapest stops in Seoul again. It is a short layover of 1.5 hours, I would not be leaving the airport in Seoul again, just transferring airplanes. I would have a ticket to San Francisco with confirmed seat and that is my final destination. Would I still not qualify for visa-free transit?

You cannot use free transit waiver by traveling like Seoul-Shenyang-Seoul-San Francisco because Seoul-Shenyang-Seoul is not a transit.
