About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hold Italian passport and want to fly into Beijing from and to Malaysia-Can I use visa free transit?

Hi, I hold an Italian passport, I will be staying in Malaysia for few days for a business trip, and I would like to fly into Beijing from there, staying for 2-3 days in Beijing, and then come back to Malaysia, from there I would return to Italy.
Can you please confirm I am eligible for free transit, assuming that passport is valid for more than 3 months?
Thanks in advance for your reply,
Kind regards,
Alessandro

Malaysia-China-Malaysia clearly isn't a transit, and therefore visa-free transit does not apply.

Rob, thanks for your answer. What if my itinerary would be as follows:
Italy-Malaysia-China-Italy
Would I in that case be eligible for free transit?
Thanks,
Alessandro

Italy-Malaysia-China-Italy will be fine for visa-free transit. Nice trip.
