About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 free visa for a round trip flight

I have a roundtrip flight from the US to shanghai with an arrival date on Feb. 20 with an outbound flight on Feb. 28.
But, during that week I also have a round trip flight traveling from Shanghai to Hong Kong Feb. 26 and back to Shanghai Feb. 27.
Am I still eligible for the 144 hr free transit?
Is it possible to be granted a 2nd free transit with my Hong Kong ticket?
What is the cost for the 144 free transit for a US citizen?

1) Yes, if your flights to and from Shanghai and HK do not stop elsewhere in mainland China.
2) Yes. There are no restrictions on how many times you can use visa-free transit within a certain period of time.
3) It's free because it's not a visa.
