72 hour transit permit and checking into hotel

Staying in Shanghai for 3 nights under the 72hour transit permit, however, I just heard that to check into a hotel in Shanghai you must have a passport with a valid travel visa? How does this work if we don't have the travel visa, only the transit permit? Will our hotel refuse us?

Visa is not needed for your case. Just present your passport and the transit permit to check in a hotel.
