About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

If I book a flight to Guangzhou from Vietnam, and another one out of Guangzhou,

but the flight out of Guangzhou has a layover in either Shanghai or Beijing for a couple hours and I don't leave the airport, am I still eligible for the 72 hours visa free transit in Guangzhou? Or do I need a direct flight out of Guangzhou to a different country? I am Canadian.

The 72h policy doesn´t allow multi stops in China so you have to apply for a visa or change your flight.
And Guangzhou don´t allow multi stops on the 24h policy at the moment.

But on my ticket my stop in Chongqing is considered a 'Technical stop' and stop duration says 00:00 and then Tianjin is the transit location and duration stop is 20:15. So would I still need a visa? Thanks
