About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Can I apply in advance for a 72hr transit visa before leaving my home country.

We are planning a 72hr stopover in Guangzhou China on our way to Amsterdam. We would like to have a hotel booking in place along with any selected sightseeing tours before departing Australia rather than try to locate a suitable hotel etc. on arrival at the airport. With the correct documentation can you apply in advance before leaving Australia. Alternatively is there any risk in making bookings in advance before visiting the Transit Service Counter at Guangzhou Airport.

The 72-hour free transit is not a visa and you cannot apply for it until you've landed in Guangzhou. Alternatively, you can also apply for a tourist visa for a fee in Australia prior to departure. Although not mandatory, proof of accommodation may be requested by the immigration officer during immigration Inspection, so it would be a good idea to have them arranged prior to departure.
