About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I get 72hr free transit if fly from Chicago to Shanghai, then return to U.S. via Seoul?

1) My daughter and I will be flying from Chicago to Shanghai (direct) and stay 3 days in Shanghai, then fly out from Shanghai to Seoul (connecting) with an 8hrs layover in Seoul and fly back to Chicago. Can we enjoy the 72 hrs visa free?
2) And if my daughter's U.S. passport will be expired in 2 months when she travels to Shanghai (we only will take 1 week for this Asia trip), will there be any problem to enter China?
Thank you

As far as I know, for entering any foreign country requiring a visa, your daughter' s passport needs to be valid at least 3 or sometimes 6 months after the end of the trip. Please make sure to check!
