Is a visa necessary? I am taking a cruise in Tianjin

The cruise stops for 3 days in Tianjin (for Beijing) and 2 days later we disembark and fly home from Shanghai. Would this be covered under the 144 hour visa-free transit mentioned on your website? I have contacted the Chinese Visa centre in London and they say they know nothing of this. Your help would be much appreciated.

So the cruise mentioned only navigates in mainland China, and you will pass Beiing, then Shanghai? If so, I am afraid your case doesn't apply to the 144h visa-free policy. But if you will stopover in an international area, like North Korea, Japan or even HK, you can use the visa-free transit twice in Beijng and Shanghai.
