About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Have connecting flights in Shanghai and Kunming to final destination, Kathmandu. Do I neeed Visa?

Traveling to Nepal February 11. Land in Shanghai on February 12; have a layover in Shanghai for 3 hours where I will connect flight to Kunming (18 hour layover); in Kunming I will connect flight to Kathmandu. I am a US Citizen and will not be leaving the airport while waiting for connecting flights. Do I qualify for 24-hour free transit? Do I need to apply for 72-hour free transit?

Yes, you will qualify for the 24 hour direct transit.
The 72 hour free transit doesn’t apply to your situation because of your two stopovers.

You qualify only if the time from scheduled arrival in Shanghai to scheduled departure from Kunming is less than 24 hours.
