About:China Visa Exemption

I am coming from United States of America to go on a cruise from Shanghai to Singapore.

I am flying to Beijing for 2 days then headed to Shanghai and leave the next day. Will I need a VISA or do I fall into the exemption? Thank you for your assistance.
