About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Potential problem

I understand you can fly to say (Shanghai) and stay visa-free and after which proceed to another third country. However, what happen if say I take a flight that stops over Beijing for 12 hours before it proceeds to Shanghai. Can I exit out of the airport in Beijing and enjoy my 12 hour stop over instead of being stucked in the airport? Does the Chinese Immigration have a policy to this effect?

That's not allowed for 144-hour transit. Your transit time will be limited to 24 hours instead.
