About:Getting to Macau

I have a one entry visa for China and arrived in Shanghai. Now I am in Shenzhen.

Can I go for a day visit to Macau and then back to Shenzhen or is my visa then no longer valid?

Yes, once leaving mainland China, the visa will be invalid. But you may try to apply for the VOA (visa on arrival) at Shenzhen border so that you can spend at most 5 days in the city.
