About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I'm flying into Beijing for two days (58 hours) and have booked two nights at a local hostel to stay

I'm flying onwards to New Zealand and therefore don't need a visa for my onward journey.

Upon arrival to Beijing do I need to register at a local police station? Further, reading above I need to have a seat reserved for my onwards flight, however as I will be arriving to Beijing before 24 hour checkin for Quantas this might not be possible?

The hostel will do the registration for you.

You just need a confirmed flight ticket, no boarding ticket.
