About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Lax to nanjing to Osaka. Return flight tokyo to shanghai then pudong to lax.

I have a visa however my wife does not. Can my wife apply for transit G type in nanjing(dex 21)going to Osaka and again in shanghai as we have airport transfer in shanghai(dex 31) on the return flight to Lax?

In addition my first layover In nanjing is 19 hours. But the return layover in shanghai is only 5 hours. I arrive in sha airport but depart 5 hours later at pvg
