About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Two stop in China

Hi, i am flying from Amsterdam to Beijing (pek) and then to Guangzhou (Can) and from there i’m going to my end destination Auckland New Zealand. Do I need a visa for the 2 stops (they are less than 7 hours in total) a lot of people say that I need one and a lot are saying that I dont need one..

Hi, you can enjoy 24 hour direct transit in mainland China. No visa is required. Nice trip.

I've got a similar flight schedule and China southern airlines told me I need a visa because I have a domestic flight in China and that they won't let me board my first flight if I can't show a visa..... I didn't know this when I booked and am pretty pissed off about it

It's your responsibility to have the correct documents, not the airlines. Can you tell us the route so we can see if China southern made a mistake?

Amsterdam- Beijing-guangzhou-cairns should qualify for 24 hours visa-free transit. But be prepared for a possible argument at AMS. I would get there early, print the relevant Timatic text and be ready to direct the agent to where the important line is on their screen.

Calling the airline is almost always a complete waste of time. For peace of mind, if you live in Amsterdam, it may be worth going to the airport a few days in advance to check. Only the check-in agents and their superiors will be familiar with processing the rules.
