About:China City Guide

I want to visit Lhasa and EBC.

1. Can I fly to Kunming, stay one day and later fly to Lhasa & EBC joining a tour group?
2. Do I mention Tibet when applying for a Chinese visa or just say Kunming tour package? (Some recommend to avoid mentioning Tibet when applying)
3. What is your advice?
4. I am a US citizen with US passport. Previously visited China in 2008.

You must join a tour in advance instead of do it upon arriving in Lhasa. But it is fine to stop for a night in Kunming, then fly to Lhasa.

It is necessary to mention Tibet trip for your Chinese visa application, and ur tour agency will help to apply for a Tibei Travel Permit in advance, which will be required when applying for visa.

Bilal, you'd better not mention Tibet for ur visa application, or you may find it is difficult to get the visa.
