About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

LA-Shanghai-S Korea (US Citizen)

We have tickets with a 6 hour layover in China. If I qualify for the free transit program, we would like to go visit the city for a couple of hours (is this possible? Just to visit the peoples square and grab lunch). Would I qualify for the 72 hour free transit program?

I am a US citizen husband is a Chinese citizen.

Hi, you qualify for the free transit program in Shanghai. Just apply for a free temporary stay permit at the immigration office when you arrive at the airport, then you can leave there to explore the city. Nice trip.

Hopefully they will let you leave the airport on a 6 hour stay. Best I did was 8 hours and was given a hard time by passport control/immigration. They finally gave me 24 hour transit. After that I decided jut to get the 10 year multi entry L type, so much simpler now.
