About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Do I need a transit visa when I pick up and recheck my baggage?

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Duc Nguyen, I am a Vietnamese passport holder and also have a Residence Permit for Student in Finland.

I have a holiday to Thailand, but need to transit in Shanghai Pudong (PVG).

I will be layover in Shanghai for 7 hours 45 mins

If I do not go outside Shanghai, just stay at the Airport. I have already check some information about the terminal that Aeroflot and AirAsia X are in same the terminal. So I will stay in the terminal 2. But I have to pick up and recheck my baggage, and of course I will go through the customs and immigration department (maybe I have to show a visa). And when I finish in Arrival gate, I have to move to the Departure gate to check out to Thailand.

I have 2 different airplane ticket but in 1 itinerary (There are Finland - Moscow - China - ThaiLand). I will get & print out the boarding pass to Thailand by e-mail

For me, Do I have to apply a transit G or when I arrive to Shanghai, I can make a temporary entry permit! at the airport!

Hoping receive your reply as soon as possible

Thanks for your attentions

Best Regards,
Duc

You don't need a visa. Just follow the sign that says arrival, show immigration your onward ticket, pick up your bags at customs and go upstairs to check-in for your flight.
