About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

Cruise ship in Shanghai for one day and wanting to do own exploring

I am an Australian citizen and will arrive on a cruise ship in the morning and leave on that same cruise ship in the evening. I want to do my own exploring in the city during the day, not part of an organised cruise ship tour or travel company tour. Do I need any sort of visa?

Well, it depends in where you are from and where you are going, if the two places are international regions and not the same, then you can apply for a 144-hour visa free transit. Enjoy your time!

I am from Australia. The cruise will end in Hong Kong where I will spend 3 days before flying home to Australia.
So does that mean for the one port day I spend in SH I need to apply for a 144-hour free visa?
