About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I’m flying from Boston to Japan for 8 days, than from Tokyo to Shanghai (3 days) , back to Boston

Should I have opportunity to have 72 hr free transit to stay in Shanghai?
Should I let know American Airline in advance?
Thank you,
Bella

Japan-China-USA on non-stop flights is fine for 144 hours visa-free transit in Shanghai. You only need to inform your carrier when you check-in at Tokyo. You don't need to tell American Airlines in advance.
