Should  I have opportunity to have 72 hr free transit to stay in Shanghai?Should I let know  American Airline in advance?Thank you,Bella

Japan-China-USA on non-stop flights is fine for 144 hours visa-free transit in Shanghai. You only need to inform your carrier when you check-in at Tokyo. You don't need to tell American Airlines in advance.
