leaving from Shenzhen on 5-day visa

I have a flight to USA from Shenzhen with stopover in Chengdu. I will enter Shenzhen from Hong Kong with a 5-day entry permit. I do not know if I can utilize the visa free rule (stopover only 5h), because it is unclear if I leave Shenzhen domestically or internationally (either way can be tricky).
