About:Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles

what do I need and do I have to go to the office or mail the paperwork to renew china passport?

My Chinese passport will expire in March, 2018.

Hi, you need to prepare your passport and its copy, a completed application form, and 4 passport-style photos, Chinese ID card, residence permit in the US, an introduction letter as well as other documents the consular officers consider necessary. You should submit the application in person.
