Visa for Beijing and Hong Kong

Hi,

I'm wondering if someone from Australia traveling for business needs just one visa, or a separate one for both cities. I've read there are exemptions for Australians visiting Hong Kong?

Australians can enjoy free entry to Hong Kong for a stay of not exceeding 90 days.
They need to apply for a visa for Beijing.
