About:Chinese Consulate in Toronto

Do we need a visa for China, we have Canadian passports ?

We arrive in HKG airport 13 Dec at 2 pm, stay in hotel till ship/cruise departs on 17 Dec. Ship arr. Shanghai 20 Dec, overnight on ship, depart Shanghai 21 Dec and sail to Japan. From Japan, arrive Beijing 28 Dec, overnight on ship, depart from Beijing airport 29 Dec. for Canada.

Hi, you don’t need visa because you are eligible for the 144 hr free transit and 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai and Beijing respectively if you travel like that. Nice trip!

Thank you, Gary. We enter HKG by AIR, but enter Shanghai by SHIP. We enter Beijing by SHIP and leave Beijing by AIR. Do you still think we do not need a visa ?

You don't need visa as long as your total layover time in Beijing is within 24 hours. Don't worry!

Thank you again Gary. Unfortunately we are in Beijing from 7 am 28th to 6 pm 29th so will need a visa :(
