About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Question for US citizen with temporary residency in the UK

Hello! I'm a US citizen with temporary residency in the UK. I want to travel UK - Hong Kong - Shanghai - UK. Is that valid, or would I need to travel to another country after Shanghai?

This is fine as long as coming in and going out of Shanghai are of different countries. Transit stops are counted so if the plane stops in HK before returning to UK then you cannot use transit free visa. Hong Kong is classified as different countries.
