About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Shanghai 4- cruise type of visa

Can you use a 72 hr free transit to stay in China a day or two. Then board a cruise ship that leaves China but returns in a few days. Then use another 24 or 72 hr free transit pass to leave China?

Hi, you cannot use a 72 hr free transit to stay in China and then board a cruise ship to leave China because the 72 hour policy is only applicable to flight travelers.

But at Shanghai the 144 hrs rules apply, not 72 hrs. They apply to passengers traveling from/to Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal, Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal and Shanghai Railway Station.

That's right. So you can enjoy 144 hr free transit to stay in Shanghai and then board a cruise ship to leave there if you are eligible for the policy. Then you can also use another TWOV to leave China. Nice trip!
