About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hong Kong?

The FAQ says Hong Kong counts as a third country for onward tickets. What about the first leg? ie: Can I go from Hong Kong -> Shanghai -> US? I am American.

Hong Kong -> Shanghai -> US will be fine for the 144 hr free transit.
