About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Booking a new ticket with a different airline to enjoy the transit visa

Hello,

My flight from Auckland to Hong Kong will lead me via Shanghai airport. The original flight with China Eastern is timed well and the timing will not allow me to leave the airport.

I want to book a new ticket, only from Shanghai to Hong Kong (as a new connection flight), with a different airline for the day after arriving from Auckland, thus maybe resulting in a stay of 20-30 hours in Shanghai. Would that still make me eligible for a free transit ? I am German, and thus on the list of eligible countries.

Hi, if you will travel like Auckland-Shanghai-Hong Kong, you will be eligible for the free transit policy. Nice trip!

Even if I am not using my original return ticket, but purchase a new leg to HK with a different airline? Thanks!

Separate tickets with a different airline will be fine as long as your trip is Auckland-Shanghai-Hong Kong. No need to worry!
