Connection flight on the exit

Hi, im flying from bangkok to shanghai pudong and leaving from shangahai hongqiao (which i guess wouldnt be a problem due to the shanghai region policy) but my flight leaves from hongqiao to Vancouver with a connection in guangzhou. Is that the same case as arriving through a layover and will i need a proper visa for that? Thank you

The stop in Guangzhou limits you to 24 hours transit in China unless you have a proper visa.

You'll definitely need a visa because Guangzhou no longer allows multi-stop transit.
