Layover at Beijing international for 24 hr. and 20 minutes. what to do with my luggage?

What to do with my luggage when I arrive at Beijing? I have a connecting flight the next day. I was told to check in to my destination when I check in at the airport. Do I need to check out my luggage at Beijing? what is the procedure for layover transit for the luggage? Is the 24 hrs. visa enough. or do I need to apply the 72 hrs, visa. Thanks
