About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

Visa required for 2 days in Shanghai (stay on ship) and 2 nights hotel stay in Beijing. Fly home

We would be grateful for any information on the following situation with regard to a cruise to China and Japan.
We are UK citizens.

We shall be flying to Hong Kong, cruising off the coast of china and then visiting SH for two days of excursions while staying on the ship (not hotels) 20-21 December
We then visit Japan on the cruise before returning to China and visiting Beijing, staying 2 nights in a hotel 26-27 December. Then fly back to the UK from Beijing on 28 December.

would someone please let me know if we qualify for the 144 hour free visa.

cruise company regent seven seas insist we still need visas costing 520 pounds through their authorised visa agent.
can you help?

No, you don’t need a visa. In SH, you can enjoy 144-hour free stay; in Beijing, you can enjoy 72-hours free stay.

Thanks for your reply Nancy.
However the visa agent insist that we do not qualify for the 144 hour exemption because we are going into China, then out and going in again from Japan.
Any further observations?

So your route will be HK-SH-Japan-Japan-BJ-UK, right?
According to the visa policy, one can enjoy the 144-hour free transit in SH if he is from a third region and to a third region. In your case, they refer to HK and Japan. Also, you can enjoy 72- hour free stay if you from Japan and then to UK.
