About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Are Macau and Hong Kong considered different countries?

I was thinking of flying from Macau (MFM) to Shanghai (PVG) on a Friday and then Shanghai (PVG) to Hong Kong (HKG) on Sunday. My passport is from one of the Schengen countries mentioned above. Would I qualify for the 144 hour free transit? Basically I just want to confirm that Macau and Hong Kong are considered "different countries". Thanks!
