Planning to arrive in Beijing, travel to Xian by train, fly to Guilin and then fly to Shanghai

Can I enter at Beijing and exit at Shanghai?
do I need different visas to travel to each area? meaning a visa for Beijing, a different one for Xian and again a different one for Guilin and then again another for Shanghai.
Or do I only apply for mainland China visa?
I have a South African passport.
