About:China Visa Exemption

Do I need to apply for a visa to enter Shanghai for my interview.

As I'm a UK national and currently in HK on a tourist type, From researching, it appears that it's easy to get a 72 hour transit for Shanghai if you are passing through i.e. if you arrive from one country and leave to another. if I fly from Hong Kong to Shanghai and then from Shanghai to Macau. That should allow me to have a 72 hour stay upon arrival and it's then very easy for me to get a ferry from Macau to Hong Kong.

Hi, you can enjoy free transit in Shanghai for the trip of Hong Kong-Shanghai-Macau. No visa is required then.
